NOVA Composite
The Northern Virginia Composite Junior Mountain Bike Team participates in the Virginia NICA league in the fall as well as the VAHS series in the spring. Our team is composed of junior athletes of all skill levels. The NICA league has four races in the fall that are restricted to middle school (grades 6-8) and high school athletes. The spring series is a more technically challenging series and is open to riders in elementary through high school. We also participate in local races such as the Wednesdays at Wakefield series in the summer and Rails to River in the spring. The team practices at Lake Fairfax and Wakefield parks.

We are a race focused cross country mountain bike team.
We practice are Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA.
Additional practices are held at Wakefield park in Annandale, VA.
Athletes may attend practice up to 2 days a week.
The team is open to residents of Loudoun and Fairfax counties.
New riders must be able competent bike riders but do not need mountain bike experience.
Race are held throughout the state but primarily in the Charlottesville area.

What is VAHS?
VAHS is the Virginia High School mountain bike race series. Despite the name, this series also has racing categories for middle and elementary school athletes. The USA Cycling series is run in the spring and consists of four races across the state.

What is NICA?
NICA is the National Interscholastic Cyling Association. Virginia joined NICA in 2014 and NOVA Composite was a founding team.

What is the Virginia Interscholastic Cycling League?

Does being a member of the team mean that my child is registered for either race series?
No, each series has its own registration process.
How old do you have to be to join?
Our athletes are typically in middle and high school. VAHS races in the spring allow riders that are as young as 4th grade.
What equipment does my child need?
Required: helmet and mountain bike in good working order.
Recommended: glove, eyewear, dedicated shoes depending on pedal choice.
